Ward Named SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Track & Field redshirt junior Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) was named SEC Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday. Ward set a new meet record in the long jump at last week's Texas Aggie Invitational.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Track & Field redshirt junior Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) was named SEC Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday. Ward set a new meet record in the long jump at last week's Texas Aggie Invitational. 

This is the first time in Ward's career he has earned an SEC weekly honor, despite being named to the All-SEC team and SEC Freshman of the year at the end of the 2017 outdoor season. Ward finished first in teh men's long jump at Texas A&M on Saturday, setting a new meet record with a mark of 7.92m (26-0). 

Ward's mark of 7.92m (26-0) is currently the third best in the nation during the 2019-20 indoor season. He holds the No. 2 mark in the long jump in Mizzou program history (8.13m / 26-8.25). Ward has also had success at the national level, finishing first in the long jump at both the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships and the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships. He earned First-Team All-American honors during the 2018 indoor season after a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
