Helen Hu Named SEC Co-Specialist of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Helen Hu (Chicago, Ill.) of the No. 20 Mizzou gymnastics team was named Southeastern Conference Co-Specialist of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. The honor marked the second time in three weeks Hu earned weekly honors from the SEC, as she claimed Freshman of the Week accolades on Jan. 7.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Helen Hu (Chicago, Ill.) of the No. 20 Mizzou gymnastics team was named Southeastern Conference Co-Specialist of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. The honor marked the second time in three weeks Hu earned weekly honors from the SEC, as she claimed Freshman of the Week accolades on Jan. 7. 

Against No. 2 Florida on Jan. 17, Hu tallied a career-best 9.95 on bars to win the event title and match Mizzou's individual program record on the event. She stands as only the fourth Tiger to ever go 9.95 on bars, joining Jodie Heinicka, Alisha Robinson and Sarah Shire, and was the first to do it since the 2010 season. Her event title was also her team-leading third of the season, although her first on bars.

Hu also scored a 9.9 on beam against the Gators for her third score of 9.9 or better on the apparatus in as many meets this season. She currently ranks eighth nationally on the event with an average of 9.917.

Mizzou travels to Auburn, Ala., to take on No. 20 Auburn on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. CT. The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network +.
