The Tigers’ trio of upperclassmen all finished in the top 10 at Turning Stone
VERONA, New York - As rain fell from the skies above Kaluhyat Golf Club on Monday morning, Mizzou Men's Golf concluded its third and final round of play at the Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate to secure a runner-up finish at the 11th annual tournament in upstate New York. The Tigers (7-under 857), second only to tournament champion North Carolina (42-under 822), fired a 1-under 287 to close out the weekend's last 18 holes of golf. Mizzou has finished as a top-three team at every Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate since the event's inaugural tournament in 2009.
Senior Rory Franssen (Inverness, Scotland) captured a sixth-place individual finish at Turning Stone with an outstanding 5-under 211 weekend. With his last performance in Verona now in the books, Franssen finished among the top-20 golfers in all four of his Turning Stone appearances as a Tiger.
Joining Franssen as a top-10 finisher, senior Ricky Sanders (The Hague, Netherlands) posted an even-par 72 in the final round to cap off the best Turning Stone performance of his career and his highest-ever tournament finish in a Mizzou uniform (T-7). Sanders 4-under 212 showing marks an improvement from his even-par 216 at his debut in Verona last season.
Junior Jack Parker (Columbia, Mo.) came through for the Tigers with a solid weekend to earn 10th place at Turning Stone – his first top-10 finish since his freshman year (T-9 at Missouri Tiger Invitational). Parker's 1-under 215 is the third-lowest 54-hole score of his career.
Newcomers Ross Steelman (Columbia, Mo.) and Viktor Einarsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) both bounced back from tough second rounds on Sunday with remarkable final frames of golf. After standing T-43 following the first 36 holes of play, Einarsson's 3-under 69 on Monday resulted in a T-21-place finish for the freshman. Steelman's comeback effort in day two also guaranteed a solid final standing (T-16) in his collegiate debut.
Sophomore Tommy Boone (Plano, Tx.) and freshman Yu-ta Tsai (Tapei, Taiwan) rounded out the scoring for Mizzou as Boone finished T-23 while Tsai came in at T-56.
