Stewart is Mizzou’s first individual NCAA Qualifier since Jace Long and Emilio Cuartero in 2012
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou sophomore Jamie Stewart is headed to postseason play after being selected as individual NCAA Qualifier. The NCAA field was announced on the Golf Channel on Wednesday night. Stewart becomes Mizzou's first NCAA individual qualifier since Jace Long and Emilio Cuartero were selected as individual participants in 2012.
Stewart will compete May 13-15 at the NCAA Louisville Regional. If Stewart advances to the NCAA Championships, medalist honors will be decided May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Stewart's impressive second season as a Tiger featured a 70.7 scoring average and a pair of top-five finishes at the Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate and GCU Invitational tournaments. Just a few weeks ago, Stewart shot a remarkable 64 in the first round of the GCU Invitational–a new career-low 18-hole score for the sophomore. The Scotland native's strong 2018-19 regular season encompassed 21 total rounds under par, resulting in Stewart finishing under par in seven out of 11 total events in which the Tigers participated.
Stewart was Mizzou's top individual finisher at an impressive nine tournaments this season. He placed outside the Top 20 individually at just one tournament during the entire regular season campaign. Stewart is the ninth Tiger to individually qualify for an NCAA Regional in program history.
Mizzou did not qualify as a team after back-to-back NCAA Regional appearances in 2017 and 2018.
