Mizzou Swept in SEC Series for Just the Second Time this Season
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Softball (29-21, 10-11) fell for the third straight day in Nusz Park on Sunday afternoon, dropping game three of the series to Mississippi State (30-19, 7-14), 10-2. In a game that seemed to mirror Saturday's, Mizzou's long ball was working, as they hit two on the day, but just didn't have anyone on base when they left the yard. Mississippi State's duo of Mia Davidson and Fa Leilua were on fire, as Davidson went yard twice while Leilua left the park once. Kat Moore would end things in the fifth with a two-run blast to center.
Redshirt senior P Madi Norman got the start, but was pulled after three innings after giving up two runs and seven hits. Sophomore P Cassie Gasper came in and left the game in the fourth, picking up her seventh loss this season after giving up four quick runs. Junior P Nalani Scates would finish the game, giving up four runs on three hits.
TOP TIGERS
- Freshman SS Jazmyn Rollin smoked a solo shot to right in the third. It was the ninth homer of the season for Rollin, the second most on the squad.
- Freshman DP Emma Raabe followed suit, cranking her second-career homer to left to tie things up at two in the fourth inning.
- Senior OF Regan Nash and sophomore OF Brooke Wilmes each notched a hit, as Nash went 1-2 while Wilmes went 1-3.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou again stumbled early, as Davidson's first bomb would put the Bulldogs up 2-0. Rollin would answer though, as she would rope one out to right to cut the deficit in half.
It looked as if Mizzou finally got the momentum, as Raabe delivered her second-career homer to tie things up at two. Just like in games one and two though, Mizzou would struggle in the bottom of the fourth, as the Tigers would give up four runs. Mississippi State would make the most of the lead, short-gaming Mizzou by adding four more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will close its regular season within the confines of Mizzou Softball Stadium, starting a four-game home stand with a matchup against UMKC on Wednesday, May 1. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
