COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Softball (27-18, 10-8) swept Texas A&M (25-21, 3-15) at Mizzou Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon, winning the series finale, 4-0. The sweep was a big one for the program, as it moves Mizzou past 10 wins in SEC play for the first time since 2016, while it also marks the first three-game sweep of an SEC foe in Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Redshirt senior P Madi Norman picked up her team-leading 13th win of the season, going six innings without allowing a run. Norman had six strikeouts for the second time this weekend and for the fourth time this season. Sophomore P Cassie Gasper was great in relief, going two innings without allowing a hit. Gasper also notched two strikeouts.
TOP TIGERS
- Sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert mashed her 16th homer of the season and finished the day 1-2 with two RBI and a run scored.
- Wert is one of just 11 players in Mizzou Softball history with at least 16 homers in a single season. She is just four away from tying the all-time record.
- Sophomore C Hatti Moore continues to be old-reliable for Mizzou, as she once again tallied a hit and a run scored.
- Freshman SS Jazmyn Rollin got back into the hit column against the Aggies, going 1-2 with a run scored and a RBI.
- Senior LF Regan Nash also notched a run and a hit, finishing the day 1-3 at the plate.
TURNING POINT
The Tigers came out swinging early once again in game three, as their three runs in the first inning would vault them ahead and give them all of the momentum. Moreover, all of those runs came with two outs.
Things got started when Rollin was drilled in the leg by a pitch. She took first, and scored on the very next at bat, as Moore crushed a single to right field. The ball was in play, but the Aggie RF bobbled it, allowing Rollin to rumble home. Wert would come up next, bombing a two-run shot to center to put the Tigers up three.
Norman and Gasper would combine for the shutout, as the pair recorded eight strikeouts en-route to victory number 27 this season for the Tigers.
QUOTEABLES
"The game gets easier when you score early," Coach Anderson said. "The pitchers don't squeeze the ball, and the defense has confidence in itself to make plays. This team is really confident right now, and their confidence grows when they have all of these fans packing the ball park. Great series win for us as a team."
