Tigers’ offense has no answer for Bulldogs’ starting hurler
ATHENS, Ga. – No. 21 Mizzou Baseball (26-13-1, 7-8-1 SEC) fell 3-0 Thursday evening at Foley Field in its series opener against No. 6 Georgia. The Bulldogs' starting pitcher, Emerson Hancock, was simply too much for Mizzou's offense, striking out 11 and allowing only three hits over 8.0 shutout innings.
Junior LHP Jacob Cantleberry opened his outing Thursday matching Emerson pitch for pitch. In fact, the Greenwood, Indiana, native didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning. However, Georgia's bats exploded out of nowhere in that frame, tallying three runs on five hits.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Thursday's pitching duel at Foley Field…
"It started off really good on the mound for both sides. We had a little chance there in the first inning and kind of ran ourselves out of an opportunity there. Then Georgia's Emerson Hancock took control and threw the ball really well all the way through the game. He kept us off-balance. I thought we got off some good swings on him and hit a few balls hard that didn't find holes. But that's the game of baseball. We needed more balls in play and better swings in better situations. Georgia was able to put one inning together. They were really good that inning."
On Cantleberry's tough sixth inning after throwing no-hit ball for five frames…
"After that leadoff bunt, he made some bad pitches up in the zone. It was something we talked about pre-game where Georgia's Tucker Maxwell was going to find a way to get on that way. For some reason we fell off the mound on the wrong side and it felt like we were defending a bunt on the other side. Maxwell's specialty is taking a bunt with him against a lefty. We just weren't ready to defend it like we had talked about it before the game."
