A wild first inning dooms the Tigers on both sides of the ball
ATHENS, Ga. – No. 21 Mizzou Baseball (26-14-1, 7-9-1 SEC) fell 5-2 Friday evening at Foley Field against No. 6 Georgia. A wild first inning at the plate and in the field for the Tigers proved to be the difference maker.
In the top half, Mizzou opened the game with three consecutive hits and had the bases loaded with zero outs. In the next batter, a blast to right field resulted in a grab at the wall by the Bulldogs defender. The Tiger runner at first base was doubled off and the runner at third was ultimately called out for leaving the bag early.
After the shocking triple play turned by Georgia, the home team's offense answered with four runs on three hits in the bottom half. Despite only tallying one run over their final eight innings at the plate, it proved to be enough for the host Bulldogs.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Friday's matchup against the Bulldogs…
"It's just one of those frustrating games. The first inning was a seven run swing. We turned around and gave up four runs. We loaded the bases in the top half and hitting the ball well and we just made some baserunning blunders on the fly ball to right. Guys were trying to press and make things happen. We were in the driver's seat that first inning. I still don't believe (Clayton) Peterson left early because there's no reason you leave third base when you have the defender's back against the wall and making a catch. I was shocked with the umpire's positioning on that play that he could even make that call. But it is what it is. We got to be better on the bases than that."
On the bullpen's solid work after a shaky start…
"Konnor (Ash) came in and did an outstanding job. Trae Robertson comes in and does his job. Then we turned it over to Ian (Bedell) and he threw really well. We knew that it would be very tough for them to score on our bullpen today with all the guys we had ready."
