COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou tennis team travels to College Station, Texas, for the 2019 Southeastern Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, held Wednesday, April 17-Sunday, April 21, at the Mitchell Tennis Center at Texas A&M University.
The Tigers take on 11-seed Arkansas in the first round on Wednesday, April 17 at 10 a.m. The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to face No. 6 seeded Kentucky on Thursday at 10 a.m. CT in the second round.
Missouri enters the SEC Tournament 14-14 overall and 0-13 in SEC action. However, the Tigers have seen doubles success recently, claiming the point in both matches at Auburn and Alabama last weekend. Against Auburn, Mizzou secured the point when junior Gabrielle Goldin and sophomore Taylor Gruber stormed back from a 5-2 deficit to win the third and decisive match, 7-5.
Junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks is ranked No. 114 in the latest Oracle/ITA Women's Singles Rankings, and has been ranked for the final month-plus of the season. Additionally, she recently earned a spot on the 2019 SEC Women's Tennis Community Service Team for her work in the Columbia community.
The 11-seed, Arkansas is 13-13 in the spring, with a 4-9 record in conference play. The Razorbacks squeaked out a 4-3 win in Fayetteville on March 15, as Gruber, sophomore Ellie Wright and freshman Lisa Fukutoku all picked up singles victories. Most recently, Arkansas went 2-1 last weekend, with 4-0 sweeps over Auburn and Chattanooga and a 4-2 loss at Alabama.
