Mizzou drops first extra-inning contest this season
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (23-12-1, 5-7-1 SEC) and No. 8 LSU competed in a wild series opener Friday at Taylor Stadium, highlighted by three lead changes and two ties. After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning, Mizzou exploded for six runs on only three hits in the bottom half. The visiting Tigers responded however with eight unanswered runs to build an 11-6 advantage in the fifth inning.
Mizzou notched the score at 11 apiece following two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth, courtesy of a game-tying three-run home run by sophomore C Chad McDaniel. Both bullpens then stepped up with three shutout innings apiece to send the game to extra innings.
With one out in the top of the 10th inning, LSU used back to back hits and an RBI fielder's choice to ultimately score the winning run. LSU's bullpen retired 13 consecutive Mizzou batters to end the ballgame Friday.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On the game's wild first inning…
"Yeah, I think both sides were frustrated. We turned six runs on them after being frustrated with the three runs we gave up. The frustrating part was we got the lead back, but then relinquished it. We weren't able to finish the game."
On Ash throwing the ball well out of the bullpen…
"It was a tough thing for them. We gave the lead back and we're fighting down five runs. It was tough bringing Konnor in and knowing that we'd probably blow him for the weekend. Not knowing if our team was going to score. That inning he came in we scored after and that's what let him stay in and throw the ball really well for us. Konnor was really good and that was the bright spot for our pitching staff tonight."
