Mizzou tallies its first-ever win over LSU at Taylor Stadium
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (24-12-1, 6-7-1 SEC) evened its weekend series against No. 8 LSU Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium with a 4-1 victory. Junior LHP TJ Sikkema was magnificent yet again on the bump for Mizzou, limiting LSU to 1 ER over 7.0 innings pitched.
The Tiger southpaw also finished with 10 strikeouts, marking his second consecutive start with double-digit punch outs and the fourth such outing of his career.
Sophomore RHP Ian Bedell closed out Saturday with 2.0 shutout frames. The Davenport, Iowa, native tallied his third save of the season and is currently riding a 12.1 scoreless innings streak heading into Sunday's series finale.
Mizzou now possesses four top 25 ranked victories this season, as today's win joined previous triumphs over No. 20 Ole Miss (March 22, 24) and No. 11 Texas A&M (March 30).

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Saturday's victory over LSU…
"It was a good game. I liked the way we played. TJ (Sikkema) goes out and sets the tone like the way he did today. The team seems to respond and play very well behind him. I thought offensively we did a really good job. You only get seven hits and might not think that was great offensive output, but we were very resourceful with our hits. Those two runs late in the game were key."
On Sikkema dominating on the mound Saturday…
"That's why TJ sits there on day two (of the series). I know he wants to open a series up, but he's there for the swing game. He can even things back up. We'll be ready to win a series tomorrow."
On Sikkema bearing down with runners on…
"When TJ gets guys on base, he becomes even tougher. He bares down and does a really good job of stranding runners."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Saturday marked Mizzou's second all-time win over LSU in 17 chances. Additionally, it was Mizzou's first-ever triumph over LSU in a game played at Taylor Stadium. Entering this weekend's series, Mizzou's lone victory occurred last season (March 17, 2018) at LSU.
- The aforementioned "swing game" of the weekend series has been kind to Mizzou as of late. The win over LSU marked Mizzou's third consecutive Southeastern Conference series triumph on a Saturday (3-2 at No. 11 Texas A&M – March 30, 5-4 vs. Kentucky – April 6).
- Mizzou improved to 15-3 this season in games played at Taylor Stadium.
- Mizzou now stands with a solid 14-5-1 record in overall day games this season.
- Mizzou continues to lock down the opposition when possessing a late lead, improving to 19-0 this season when holding an advantage after eight innings of play.
- Junior UTIL Peter Zimmermann's seventh inning RBI single extended his safely reached base streak to 20 games. That mark is the second-longest streak by a Mizzou batter this season, trailing Misner's streak of 21 games by only one contest now.
- A. Peterson tallied his second multi-hit game of the season Saturday. It had been a long gap in between his first and most recent multi-hit outing, as he opened the season (Feb. 15) with a pair of hits at North Florida.
