#ShowMe Mizzou Game Notes
Series History vs. Saint Louis
- Mizzou leads the all-time series over Saint Louis, 73-17.
- Tuesday will mark the programs' first meeting since March 29, 2016. Mizzou tallied a 5-3 victory over the Billikens in a neutral site matchup at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
- It will be Saint Louis' first visit to Taylor Stadium since March 14, 2007. The Tigers claimed a 19-1 victory in that ballgame.
- The Tigers have not played at the Billikens' home ballpark since March 30, 2005.
- The two programs met in postseason play in three consecutive years from 1963-65. The Tigers held a slim 4-3 edge in those seven postseason matchups.
Series History vs. Kansas State
- Mizzou leads the all-time series over Kansas State, 168-113-1.
- Wednesday afternoon will be the programs' first battle since April 20-22, 2012.
- The Wildcats made the journey east to Taylor Stadium with the Tigers earning a three-game series sweep. Mizzou outscored Kansas State in those contests, 24-7.
Mizzou Pitching Staff Among the Nation's Elite
- As the Tigers move past the halfway point of the 2019 campaign, their pitching staff has solidified itself as one of the country's best. In fact, Mizzou's collective 2.87 ERA entering the week (April 1-7) ranks 11th in the NCAA and 3rd in the SEC.
- In SEC only play the Tigers' hurlers numbers are even more impressive, as their 1.81 ERA in nine conference matchups ranks first. That incredible number is over a full run less than the second place team ERA in SEC only action (2.97 - Texas A&M).
- Mizzou's staff has also limited batters to a microscopic .207 batting average in SEC play, also ranking tops in the conference.
- Individually, junior LHP TJ Sikkema (3rd - 1.57) and senior LHP Tyler LaPlante (8th - 1.89) each rank top 10 in SEC only ERA. Junior LHP Jacob Cantleberry has also shined in his first season of SEC action, as his 22 strikeouts ranks 8th in the conference while his 11 strikeouts looking ranks T-1st.
Tigers Complete Wild Weekend at No. 11 Texas A&M
- After letting a 3-2, eighth inning advantage slip away in the series opener (March 29) in College Station, the Tigers bounced back Saturday (March 30) with a 3-2, 15-inning victory to even the weekend series.
- The Tigers were down to their final out in the ninth inning Saturday, but sophomore OF Thomas Broyles stunned the Aggie faithful with a game-tying two-run home run.
- Extra innings was a battle of the bullpens, before sophomore 2B Mark Vierling finally broke through for Mizzou with an RBI single in the top of the 15th inning. Coach Bieser called to junior LHP TJ Sikkema to close out the game and he successfully did so by stranding a runner at third to clinch the Tiger victory.
- Saturday was Mizzou's longest game played thus far in 2019. The 15-inning affair is the longest Tiger game since a year ago, as they also battled in 15 innings versus Mississippi State (March 24, 2018). The past two years' 15-inning ballgames were the program's first-such contests since 2013. The Tigers fell to Florida in 15 innings at Taylor Stadium on April 20, 2013.
