COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou tennis team fell to the No. 9 South Carolina Gamecocks, 4-0, Friday night at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. The Tigers fell to 10-4 overall and 0-3 in SEC competition with the loss, while the Gamecocks improved to 8-2 and 3-0.
DOUBLES
The Gamecocks won the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3 action. First, Megan Davies and Kennedy Wicker claimed a 6-1 win over sophomore Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) and freshman Lisa Fukutoku (Tokyo, Japan) at No. 3. South Carolina then posted a 6-2 victory at No. 2 when sophomore Taylor Gruber (Spicewood, Texas) and Vivien Abraham (Budapest, Hungary) fell to Paige Cline and Silvia Chinellato.
SINGLES
Missouri suffered losses at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles to allow South Carolina to come away with the team win. The Gamecocks took a 2-0 advantage when Fukutoku fell to No. 99 Mia Horvit, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 action.
A 6-1, 6-4 victory for Ingrid Gamarra Martins, the ninth ranked singles player in the nation, over junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) at No. 1 competition, and a 6-2, 6-2 win from No. 49 Paige Cline of South Carolina against junior Serena Nash (Bradford, England) at No. 2 secured the team victory for the Gamecocks.

"That was tough. We knew South Carolina was going to be good, they've had a good season so far. But our expectations against teams like that have to be a little better. When they come out and play that well we have to match it. The team has a motto, 'rise up,' and I would have liked to have seen that a little bit more today. The mindset of the team going out there was good but when South Carolina matched that level early, I didn't think we put balls away the way we did this week in practice."

The Tigers host a doubleheader on Sunday, March 10 at the Mizzou Tennis Complex. Mizzou opens the day against Florida at Noon CT, followed by a match against UMKC an hour and a half following the first contest.
