TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mizzou Softball dropped its first two SEC games of the season, falling to No. 5 Alabama 3-1 in game one, while falling 14-8 in game two at Rhoads Stadium. Alabama remains undefeated following its two victories, moving to 24-0, while Mizzou drops to 11-9 on the season.  Â
Senior P Madi Norman went complete against the Tide in game one, only surrendering three runs to the prolific Alabama offense. In game two, the Tigers pitched by committee, but it really didn't matter who was in the circle, as Alabama scored two or more runs in every inning but the third and the first, helping the Tide dig out of what was once a 7-0 hole.
TOP TIGERS – Game One
- Freshman SS Jazmyn Rollin continued her solid play after her insertion into the lineup, as she went 1-3 against the Tide, bombing a solo home run in the top of the fourth. It was Mizzou's only run in the game.
- Sophomore 2B Brooke Wilmes was excellent defensively moving back to second, registering a game-high four assists.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou got right back into the game in the top of the fourth, as Rollin bombed a solo shot to cut the 2-0 lead in half. The Tigers would hold the Tide scoreless in the bottom of the inning, and momentum had swung to their side.
The Tigers couldn't take advantage of the momentum swing, though, as the offense couldn't muster anything in the top of the sixth. Alabama would stretch its lead back out to two in the bottom of the sixth, and would hang on after blanking Mizzou in the top of the seventh.
TOP TIGERS – Game Two
- Sophomore catcher Hatti Moore was excellent in game two, going 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base.
- Sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert also registered a multi-hit game, going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI.
- Senior LF Regan Nash had a solid outing, going 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
- Senior 1B Kolby Romaine put together a strong offensive game, going 2-3 at the plate while scoring one run.
TURNING POINT
The Tigers took charge early, jumping out to an 8-3 lead after three innings. However, the Tide did not go away early, and it paid off later on.
Things started to come apart for Mizzou after that, though, as the Tide scored 11 unanswered runs, including five in the bottom of the fourth frame.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will face the Tide one more time, as the series finale in Tuscaloosa will come Sunday, March 10, with a first pitch time of 1 p.m. CT. That game will be broadcast nationally on the SEC Network.
