LEXINGTON, Ky. - Mizzou Softball (16-12, 5-4) swept No. 13 Kentucky (21-10, 6-3), taking the series finale, 8-4, at John Cropp Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was the first time since April of 2017 that the Wildcats had been swept at home, and the first time in the Rachel Lawson era at Kentucky the Cats had given up 8+ runs in three straight contests.
Senior P Madi Norman got her first win of the weekend, going four innings with one strikeout. She allowed four runs to the 20 batters she faced. Junior P Eli Daniel came in in relief and put in three solid innings of work, including three strikeouts.
TOP TIGERS
- Sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert put the exclamation point on her fantastic weekend, going 2-4 at the plate with a double and a home run. Her 10 homers and 30 RBI lead the team.
- Senior 1B Kolby Romaine got things started in the first inning, belting an RBI double to push Mizzou out to an early 2-0 lead.
- Sophomore RF Brooke Wilmes registered another multi-hit game, going 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Â Â
- Freshman SS Jazmyn Rollin continues to roll for the Tigers, going 1-3 at the plate while also scoring two runs and adding a stolen base.
- Sophomore C Hatti Moore bumped her hitting streak up to five straight games, going 1-2 at the plate with one run scored, one RBI, while also earning two walks.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou pounced right from the jump, as Romaine's double and Wert's 10th homer this season gave the Tigers an early 4-1 lead after three innings of play. The game would be blown open in the fourth, though, as Mizzou's offense gained some real traction in the inning.
Wilmes bounced a ball right in front of the pitcher to score one, and then Wert doubled to score two more. Mizzou would lead 7-1 after the top of the inning. Though Kentucky would cut it to three, the Tigers would get an insurance run from Rollin off of an RBI single from Moore in the top of the sixth. Daniel would shut down the Cats in the seventh, and Mizzou would sweep the series.
