PITTSBURGH, Pa. –  Mizzou Wrestling sent two grapplers into the semifinals of their respective weight classes during Session III of the 2019 Division I NCAA Wrestling Championships Friday morning at PPG Paints Arena. One win away from the finals are RS senior Daniel Lewis (174) and RS junior Jaydin Eierman (141) as both garner All-America honors with their semifinal wins. Lewis is the program's third-ever four-time All-American, joining only Ben Askren (2004-07) and J'den Cox (2014-17). Eierman is the program's eighth three-time All-American. Both will wrestle in the semifinals against the defending national champions tonight.

In the team race, Eierman and Lewis are a key reason why Mizzou currently sits in sixth place after three sessions. Below are the complete team scores.

  1. Penn State – 80.0
  2. Ohio State – 66.5
  3. Oklahoma State – 56.0
  4. Iowa – 43.5
  5. Michigan – 40.0
  6. Mizzou – 37.0
  7. Minnesota – 32.0

Session IV of the 2019 Championships will begin at 7 p.m. (CT) tonight on both ESPNU and ESPN3.

Starting in the quarterfinals for Mizzou was RS senior 133-pounder John Erneste, who drew top-seeded Daton Fix of Oklahoma State. A second-period reversal extended Fix's lead to 4-0 and Erneste was outscored 7-2 in the third as the nation's top 133 pounder advanced to the semifinal. That dropped Erneste to the wrestlebacks and he will face No. 11 Tariq Wilson of NC State for the right to be an All-American.

At 141, Eierman was outstanding right off the bat as he opened a 6-2 lead over Lock Haven's Kyle Shoop after the first. He held on for an 8-3 win to earn his third All-America honors in three NCAA Tournament appearances. He is now the eighth Mizzou wrestler to earn three All-America honors in his career. He'll wrestle top-seeded Yianni Diakomihalis tonight in the semifinals. Eierman is 1-2 all-time against Diakomihalis, and 0-1 this season after falling in a 3-1 decision at the South Beach Duals back in December.

True freshman Brock Mauller lost a tough bout in the 149 quarterfinal, falling to No. 5 Matthew Kolodzik (Princeton), 5-3. Mauller was hit with three stall calls, costing him a pair of points, which turned out to be the difference in the bout. He will wrestle in the consolation bracket tonight against No. 15 Max Thomsen of Northern Iowa, a wrestler who he beat 9-3 earlier this season.

After a dominant first period, Lewis wrapped up a cradle quickly in the second period for his third fall of the tournament. He has needed a combined 8:24 for the three pins, good for an average that wouldn't see his opponent leave the first period. He now has 17 pins on the season, tied with Eierman for the team lead. That moves his career total to 53, which is the second-best total in school history, trailing only Askren's 91. His 117 career wins now rank 12th in school history. He will wrestle third-seeded Zahid Valencia of Arizona State, the defending national champion, in the semifinals. Lewis pinned Valencia earlier this season in Tempe, Ariz.

In the wrestleback portion of the bracket, Mizzou was in danger of going 0-4 until its penultimate bout of the session. True freshman HWT Zach Elam recorded his fifth pin of the season and first of the tournament in just 4:22 to advance in the wrestleback portion of the bracket. In his next wrestleback, which was the session's final bout, he grappled with No. 12 Conan Jennings of Northwestern and the two needed three overtimes to settle the score. Elam earned a takedown in the third tiebreaker to earn the 3-1 win.

Elam joins Mauller and Erneste who are still alive in the wrestlebacks, giving Mizzou five still wrestling after three sessions. Those three all need one more win to secure All-America honors. Below is a breakdown of all nine qualifiers so far:
