Tigers conclude weekend with 9-4 Sunday victory
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (9-5) wrapped up its flawless weekend at Taylor Stadium Sunday with a 9-4 victory over Northwestern. Senior 1B Tony Ortiz went yard yet again, hammering a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Olympia, Washington, native finished his three-game series against the Wildcats with a .333 average, five runs scored, one double, three home runs, eight RBI and 14 total bases. Ortiz breezed past his single-season career-high in home runs this weekend alone, as he only had one long ball in 2018.
On the bump, senior LHP Tyler LaPlante delivered a quality start, allowing two earned runs over six innings of work. Sophomore RHP Ian Bedell was fantastic in wrapping up the Tigers' victory, tossing three scoreless innings en route to his first save this year.

Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On LaPlante bouncing back after a shaky start…
"Tyler has still yet to throw his best game this year. I think he did a good job of securing a win for us today without having his best stuff. He started to establish the inner part of the plate and freed himself up. That is what he has to continue to do."
On Ortiz stepping up at the plate today and this weekend…
"We know every year someone steps up and needs to be that guy in the lineup. He has been huge for us. Tony has been swinging a good bat. As the season goes, he knows it will get tougher as people start keying in on him. Nobody is hotter than he is right now."
