Mauller upset No. 5 Kaden Gfeller of Oklahoma State last week; now ranked in the top-five nationally at 149
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou true freshman 149-pounder Brock Mauller (Columbia, Mo.) is the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league office. This marks the first time that Mauller has earned this honor in his career and he is fourth Mizzou wrestler to earn the award this season, joining Daniel Lewis (twice), Jaydin Eierman (once) and Dylan Wisman (once).
Mauller upset the nation's No. 5 wrestler at 149 pounds in a dominant 10-4 decision over fifth-ranked Kaden Gfeller of Oklahoma State. Ranked No. 7 heading into the dual, Mauller extended his personal winning streak to 15 while earning his second win over a top-10 opponent in the last month. Mauller is now 25-1 during his true freshman season, the most wins for a Mizzou true freshman since three-time national champion J'den Cox had 38 as a true freshman in 2013-14. His win Saturday gave Mizzou a 9-7 dual lead over second-ranked Oklahoma State, a lead that it took into the 197-pound weight class before falling just shy of its 36th straight dual win with an OT loss at HWT.
Mauller and Mizzou will be back in action this Sunday, traveling to No. 11 Iowa State for a 5 p.m. dual at Hilton Coliseum.
