No. 12 Mizzou Wrestling Will Send Grapplers to Saturday’s Cougar Clash

No. 12 Mizzou Wrestling will be back in action for the first time since Nov. 23 this Saturday as it heads to SIU-Edwardsville for the Cougar Clash, an all-day tournament at the First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center. Tiger Style head coach Brian Smith is sending 18 of his wrestlers, including five who rank in the top-25 at their respective weight classes, to the tournament.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 12 Mizzou Wrestling will be back in action for the first time since Nov. 23 this Saturday as it heads to SIU-Edwardsville for the Cougar Clash, an all-day tournament at the First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center. Tiger Style head coach Brian Smith is sending a team of his wrestlers, including five who rank in the top-25 at their respective weight classes, to the tournament.

Mizzou has not competed since Nov. 23 when it claimed seven weight class titles at the Lindenwood Open. Saturday will mark the third tournament for the Tiger starters this season and first this month. Action will begin at 10 a.m.

  • 125 Pounds: Dack Punke (3-4) and Cameron Valdiviez (10-2) 
    • Dack Punke is 3-4 and has wins over Paxton Rosen (Campbell) (Dec 4-2), Joey Thomas (West Virginia) (Dec 6-0) and Dequarius Millett (Missouri Valley) (Dec 3-1). 
    • Cameron Valdiviez is 10-2 on the year, five of which are by fall. Last time out, he picked up four wins at the Lindenwood Open with a win over Matthew Vinci (Northwestern) (MD 8-0), Noah Surtin (Missouri) (Dec 5-0), Cevion Severado (Missouri) (MD 10-2) and took third place at the Open by beating Corey Cabanban (Iowa State) (Fall 1:12).  
       
  • 133 Pounds: Allan Hart (7-2)  
    • Allan Hart is 7-2 on the year with big wins over Jaime Hernandez (North Carolina) (Fall 5:22), Colton Landers (Chattanooga) (TF 17-2 6:07), Dane Durlacher (Illinois) (TF 22-3 0:00). He earned First Place at the Lindenwood Open with a win over Tyler Lawley (Newman) (Fall 2:36).
       
  • 141 Pounds: #5 Grant Leeth (1-0) and Alex Butler (7-3) 
    • Grant Leeth, a 2018 All-American, started the season with a win over Dylan Duncan (Illinois) (MD 10-2).
    • Alex Butler is 7-3 this year with big wins over Josh Baier (Virginia Tech) (Dec 7-4), Chris DeBien (Chattanooga) (Dec 3-1), Aaron Meyer (Iowa) (Dec 5-3). He earned first place at the Lindenwood Open with a win over Justin Stickley (Iowa) (Dec 3-1).
       
  • 149 Pounds: #2 Brock Mauller (7-0) 
    • All-American Brock Mauller is 7-0 on the season with wins over Brent Moore (Virginia Tech) (Dec 6-0), Tanner Smith (Chattanooga) (MD 10-2), and Mousa Jodeh (Illinois) (MD 12-3).
       
  • 157 Pounds: #14 Jarrett Jacques (9-1) and Phyllip DeLoach (8-3) 
    • Jarrett Jacques is 9-1 on the season with wins over Eric Barone (Illinois) (Dec 11-5), Johnny Mologousis (Illinois) (Dec 5-4). He earned first place at the Lindenwood Open over Ty Lucas (Central Oklahoma) (MD 8-0).
    • Phyllip DeLoach is 8-3 on the season gaining three wins at the Lindenwood Open last week and taking fourth by beating Jalin Harper twice (Oklahoma State) (First Match: Dec 7-6) (Second Match: 4-2), and Grant Stotts (Iowa State) (Dec 4-2).
       
  • 165 Pounds: Peyton Mocco (6-5) and Luke Fortuna (8-2) 
    • Peyton Mocco is 6-5 on the year so far with notable wins over Andrew Nicholson (Chattanooga) (Fall 2:46), Rodrick Mosley (Gardner-Webb) (MD 14-4), and Ankhaa Enkhmandakh (Northwestern) (Fall 6:13).
    • Luke Fortuna is 8-2 this season so far with notable wins over Sawyer Davidson (North Carolina) (Dec 5-3), Andrew Nicholson (Chattanooga) (Dec 3-2), Nick South (Indiana) (Dec 3-2), and winning the Lindenwood Open by beating Elias Vaoifi (Missouri Valley) (Dec 3-1).
       
  • 174 Pounds: #20 Connor Flynn (8-2) and Jeremiah Kent (8-2) 
    • Connor Flynn is 8-2 on the year with his big matches being over DeMichael Franklin (Iowa State) (TF 18-1) Kevin Gschwendtner (SIU Edwardsville) (TF 20-4), and Cody Hughes (Virginia Tech) (MD 12-1).
    • Jeremiah Kent is also 8-2 on the year and earning the tournament title at the Lindenwood Open with wins over Jake DiBenedetto (Illinois) (TF 16-0), Elijah Joesph (Oklahoma) (Fall 2:25), Maxwell Southard (Iowa State) (MD 10-0), Donnell Washington (Indiana) (Fall 2:55) and beating Connor Flynn (Missouri) (Dec 5-3) to take first.
       
  • 184 Pounds: Dylan Wisman (2-2) and Cordel Duhart (10-3)
    • Dylan Wisman is 2-2 and his wins this year are over Canten Marirott (Missouri) (Dec 8-5) and Tony Vezzetti (Notre Dame (Ohio)) (Dec 7-1).
    • Cordel Duhart is 10-3 on the year. He won his first eight bouts of the season and is 8-3 in tournament action this year. 
       
  • 197 Pounds: #22 Wyatt Koelling (6-1) and Jack Flynn (5-4)
    • Koelling is 6-1 and ranked nationally at 197 pounds by FloWrestling.com. He enters the tournament at No. 22 nationally, including a 4-1 mark in tournament action. 
    • Flynn is 5-4 on the year and 3-4 in tournament bouts. He has a pair of falls in his redshirt freshman season. 
       
  • Heavyweight: Rodrigo Diaz (7-5) and Jacob Bohlken (5-1)
    • Rodrigo Diaz is 7-5 and took fifth last week at the Lindenwood Open by beating Caleb Gossett (McKendree) (MD 11-3), Josh Heindselman (Oklahoma) (DQ) and Colton McKiernan (SIU Edwardsville) (M. For.).
    • Bohlken is 5-1 on the year and has wrestled five matches in tournament action. He's 4-1 in tournament bouts this season.
