Cherise Otter Moves Up Leaderboard with One-Under 71 Saturday
The Missouri Women's Golf Team shot a team score of 304 Saturday in round two of the 2019 Battle at the Beach, held at Club Campestre in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico, and the Tigers find themselves in 12th place heading into Sunday's final round of play, with a two-day total of 607. Mizzou is just two shots back of 10th-place Denver University (605) in the 16-team field.
Senior Cherise Otter (Bloomington, Ind.) led the way today for the Tigers individually, as she shot a one-under par 71 that featured seven birdies. Her two-day total of 147 (76-71) has Otter in a tie for 17th place heading into Sunday's final round.
"I've been really focused on my ball striking lately, and today it really paid off," said Otter. "I gave myself opportunities on the greens to make birdies and was able to capitalize on a lot of them," she said.
Highlights of the day for Mizzou's lineup:
#2 Cherise Otter (Sr., Bloomington, Ind.) – 76-71 (147) – T-17th
Otter posted a one-under 71 Saturday, which was the 10th-lowest of the day in the 87-player field … She will enter Sunday's final round in a tie for 17th place overall, just three shots out of the top 10 … Otter fired seven birdies on Saturday, including three on the back nine and four on the front, shooting a one-under 35 and even-par 36, respectively … Otter is second in the tournament field with nine birdies over the first 36 holes … She is also second in the field with her 3.81 average on par fours (three-under total).
#3 Sophia Yoemans (Fr., Red Wing, Minn.) – 77-76 (153) – T-50th
Yoemans shot identical 38s on each side for a four-over 76 on Saturday, and she enters Sunday's final round tied for 50th overall with a two-day 153 total … Yoemans had one birdie on each nine Saturday, and had her round at even par through 10 holes.
#4 Bri Bolden (Fr., Mokena, Ill.) – 78-77 (155) – T-59th
Bolden improved by one shot from Friday, and carded a five-over par 77 in Saturday's second round, putting her in a tie for 59th individually … Bolden toured the front nine in even-par 36, thanks to three birdies.
#1 Noelle Beijer (Jr., Assendelft, The Netherlands) – 72-80 (152) – T-45th
Beijer was four over on each side Saturday, shooting an 80 that leaves her in a tie for 45th entering Sunday's final round … Beijer, who had one birdie on Saturday, is carrying the honorary Folds of Honor golf bag in the tournament, and each hole she birdies raises money for FOH, in memory of former Mizzou ROTC member and 1st Lieutenant William Anthony Edens…For more information on how to pledge money to Folds of Honor based on Tiger birdies, please visit www.mutigers.com/foldsofhonor.
#5 Julia Bower (So., Columbia, Mo.) – 90-81 (171) – 87th
Bower had one of the biggest improvements in the tournament field, as she dropped nine strokes from her opening round, and shot a nine-over par 81 on Saturday … She birdied the par-4 3rd hole on Saturday, and that helped her to a two-over 38 on the front nine.
Day three will get underway with a shotgun start Sunday at 7:15 a.m. central time. The Tigers will play Sunday with Denver, Nebraska and Vanderbilt.
