Mizzou Tennis Signs Ventura to National Letter of Intent

Ventura captured the 2017 U18 National Title in New Zealand
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis head coach Colt Gaston announced the signing of Elys Ventura Thursday, as the New Zealand native signed her national letter of intent and will continue her athletic and academic career at the University of Missouri. In the combined world junior rankings from ITFTennis.com, Ventura climbed to as high as No. 390.
Ventura will join Mizzou for the spring semester of 2020, and will have four years of eligibility remaining. Most recently, Ventura played at the 2019 WTA ASB Classic, where she advanced to the round of 16 in doubles competition.
"I am very excited about the addition of Elys to our program," said Gaston. "She has very high expectations of herself and really believes in the culture and program we are creating here at Mizzou. I know she will make an impact on our team right away and we look forward to having her here."
From Westlake Girls High School in Aukland, New Zealand, Ventura captured the 2017 U18 New Zealand national title and represented her home country at the 2017 WTA Future Stars Tournament. At the prestige tournament, Ventura was given the Li Na Inspiration Award. She also represented New Zealand at the 2017 Junior Fed Cup, where her country placed seventh.
At Mizzou, Ventura is interested in studying Business and Industrial Design.
