Mizzou hits the road as they head to Stillwater, Oklahoma
STILLWATER, Okla. - Mizzou Cross Country is set for the NCAA Regional Championships this Friday in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Mizzou will deploy teams of six men and seven women with the hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships which will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana, on November 23. The Tiger women will hit the course for the 6K at 10:30 a.m. CT while the men will run the 10k at 11:30 a.m.
In order to qualify for the 2019 Cross Country National Championships, Mizzou's squads will either have to finish as one of the top two teams on Friday in Stillwater or be added as one of 13 additional teams by receiving an at-large bid. Meanwhile, after teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals per gender will be selected for the National Championships. Among individuals who are not members of qualifying teams, the top four finishers at the regional meet will qualify. For full details about the qualifying process, click here.
The Mizzou women are set to build off of a strong performance at the SEC Championships on November 1. Mizzou was led by junior Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England) who finished 18th and paced the Tigers on their way to a third place team finish. The Tigers placed five runners in the race's top 50 finishers while freshman Ginger Murnieks (Lee's Summit, Mo.) finished as the fourth-overall freshman and earned SEC All-Freshman honors.
The women will send seven runners to the line, including seniors Jordyn Kleve (Urbandale, Iowa), Melissa Menghini(Fenton, Mo.), Hannah Thomas, (Urbandale, Iowa) and Sophia Racette (St. Louis, Mo.). Freshman Ginger Murnieks (Lee's Summit, Mo.) earned All-SEC Freshman recognition at the SEC Championships after being the fourth freshman to cross the finish line. She looks to continue a strong debut season this weekend.
On the men's side, senior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) led the Tigers in Lexington with an eighth-place finish that placed him on the All-SEC Second Team. George has picked up a pair of race victories this season and has paced the Tigers in each of its five races this fall.
When the Tigers hit the course in Stillwater on Friday morning, a familiar lineup of runners will take to the starting line for the men, including George, sophomore Oaklee Hauschild (Blue Springs, Mo.), redshirt freshman Victor Mugeche (Blue Springs, Mo.), sophomore Martin Prodanov (Plovidv, Bulgaria) and redshirt senior Michael Widmann (Naperville, Ill.).
