COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou junior swimmer Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn.) was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The junior won one individual event and swam on four winning relays in Mizzou's wins over No. 7 North Carolina State, No. 14 Kentucky and Arkansas last week. She swam on the Tigers' winning 200 free, 400 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays in the quad meet, including as the leadoff leg of Mizzou's 200 free relay that notched the fastest time in the nation with a 1:29.09. Individually, Thompson claimed first-place honors in the 50 free with for her team-leading fifth event win of the year with a 22.22, narrowly off her season-best time of 22.13 that ranks fourth nationally. She also swam a personal-best 1:54.57 in the 200 back, which ranks her fifth nationally and eighth all-time at Mizzou, as well as season-bests in the 100 back (53.57 as a leadoff split) and 100 fly (54.44).
A two-time NCAA qualifier, Thompson owns five All-America honorable mentions as part of Mizzou relays at the NCAA Championships. She garnered All-SEC second team honors as a sophomore and currently ranks third all-time at Mizzou in the 50 free (22.13), fourth in the 100 back (51.66) and eighth in both the 100 free (49.16) and 200 back (1:54.57).
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams return home to the Mizzou Aquatics Center for the Long Course Trials Qualifier on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. CT. The Tigers then host the three-day Mizzou Invite, Nov. 20-22, at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
