COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer (7-10-1, 1-8-1 SEC) ended the 2019 season with a 4-2 defeat to Mississippi State (8-7-3, 3-4-3 SEC) at Walton Stadium on Thursday evening. A first half that saw a trio of goals from Bulldogs Waldner, Echegini and Karnley also featured a goal from sophomore forward Julissa Cisneros, giving her ten goals on the season. On her Senior Night at Mizzou, forward Sarah Luebbert picked up an assist on the Cisneros goal, dribbling into the right of the box and crossing across the net to find Cisneros waiting in front of the goal.
The second half featured more defensive intensity from both sides only allowing a goal a side. The Bulldogs struck first in the second half with a goal from Steinke in the 49'. The Tigers responded with another goal from Cisneros in the 82' as the sophomore received a cross in the box from freshman forward Janna Singleton and was able to head the ball into the net. The second goal of Cisneros' brace would send the game to a final score of 4-2 in favor of Mississippi State.
The Tigers' season ends on Senior Night as Mizzou has been eliminated from contention in the SEC Tournament.
TURNING POINT
As the Tigers cut the Bulldog lead in half with a Cisneros strike to the top of the net, Mississippi State took seven minutes to respond with a similar looking goal that saw Olivia Hernandez dribble to the left of the goal, beat her defender, and cross to an open Monigo Karnley increasing the Bulldog lead to 3-1 in the 30'. The two-goal deficit would prove too much for the Tigers to overcome.
