
Mizzou Swimming & Diving Opens 2019-20 Campaign Friday at 14th Annual Show-Me Showdown

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams officially open their 2019-20 seasons on Friday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. CT with the 14th Annual Show-Me Showdown at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Friday also marks the Pink Out event, where fans can purchase pink swim caps for $15 (cash only), with proceeds going towards the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. Heat sheets will be available for $5. Admission to the meet is free.
Fans are asked to park at the Turner Avenue Parking Garage at the intersection of Turner Avenue and Tiger Avenue. Parking costs $5 and can be purchased ahead of time here.
THE COMPETITION
The Tigers face-off against in-state foes Drury, Lindenwood, Maryville, Missouri State, Missouri S&T, SLU, Truman State, UMSL, Washington University and William Jewell. All teams besides Missouri S&T (men only) have men's and women's programs.
MEN'S OUTLOOK
Coming off an 11th-place finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships and a runner-up team placement at the SEC Championships, the 2019-20 men's squad returns 10 Tigers with All-America honors to their name: seniors Nick Alexander, Daniel Hein, Caleb Hicks, Giovanny Lima and Micah Slaton, junior Grant Reed and sophomores Jack Dahlgren, Jack Dubois, Danny Kovac and Kyle Leach. Additionally, seven individual NCAA participants also return: Alexander, Dahlgren, Dubois, Hein, Hicks, Kovac, Lima and Slaton.
WOMEN'S OUTLOOK
The 2019-20 women's team returns four All-Americans: senior Haley Hynes, juniors Sammie Jo Porter and Sarah Thompson and sophomore Megan Keil. Hynes and Thompson join senior Jennifer King as previous NCAA qualifiers. The women's squad placed 22nd at last year's NCAA Championships and seventh at SECs.
THREE TIGERS COMPETE AT 2019 PAN AMERICAN GAMES
Seniors Nick Alexander, Azra Avdic and Giovanni Gutierrez Lozano all competed at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, this past summer. Alexander, who represented the United States, took home silver in the 200 back at the meet, with a finals time of 1:58.30. Avdic and Gutierrez Lozano competed for home country Peru.
FRESHMAN JOSEPH GUTIERREZ NAMED TO USA SWIMMING OPEN WATER NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAM
Freshman Joseph Gutierrez was named to the 2019-20 USA Swimming Open Water National Junior Team, announced by USA Swimming on Sept. 11. He earned a spot on the National Junior Team thanks to his performance at the 2019 USA Swimming 10K Open Water Championships, where he freshman placed 18th overall in the event but third amongst 18-and-under athletes with a time of 1:57.25.90. The top six 18-and-under finishers at the Championships were named to the National Junior Team.

The Tigers host the Florida Gators on Friday, Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m. CT at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network +.

Relay Scoring: Each team can score only their top two relays in each event. Top 16 places score.
Breakdown: 40-34-32-30-28-26-24-22 18-14-12-10-8-6-4-2
Number of Events: Each swimmer of diver may compete in a maximum of two individual events and two relays.
