TOP TIGERS
Four different Tigers each claimed two wins apiece in the meet, seniors Nick Alexander (St. Louis, Mo.) and Haley Hynes (Lee's Summit, Mo.), sophomore Jack Dubois (Alpharetta, Ga.) and freshman Leonardo Garcia Varela (Cali, Colombia).
Additionally, the women's 200 medley relay team of Hynes, freshman Molly Winer (Ames, Iowa), junior Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn.) and sophomore Megan Keil (Derby, Kan.) missed an NCAA automatic qualifying time by just over a tenth of a second after placing first in 1:36.53.
Alexander doubled up with wins in the 200 IM (1:47.46) and 100 back (47.89) to kickoff his senior season, while Hynes took home victories in the 100 fly (53.80) and 100 back (52.82).
In the diving well, Garcia Varela swept the springboards in his first collegiate meet with totals of 336.5 on 3-meter and 318.5 on 1-meter.
Also with two wins on the day was Dubois, who touched first in the 200 free (1:37.64) and 500 free (4:28.63).
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Head Coach Andrew Grevers
"First and foremost, we're implementing Zou Style for the first time. That's our process, and out of everything great I saw or heard today, the thing I'm most proud of is the athletes cheering and supporting one another, AKA their Zou Style. That's what really hit home with me the most.
"We had some tremendous racing I think we have gotten our first NCAA qualifier, Sarah Thompson a tenth under what it took to make NCAAs last year. The women's 200 medley relay missed the A cut by 0.13, it's wonderful to have a B cut out of the way. When I reflect on the meet as a whole, with every single athlete who competed, I can't think of one who did not pour their heart into every single race or dive. That is the best feeling you can have as a coach."
