
Mizzou Women’s Basketball Opens Exhibition Play with 94-55 Victory over Truman State

Freshmen Blackwell and Frank combine for 47 points
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball opened exhibition play on Thursday night with a 94-55 victory over Truman State. Mizzou opened the game with a 16-0 run and never looked back, leading by as much as 39 points in the game.
The freshmen duo of Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) and Hayely Frank (Stafford, Mo.) combined for 47 of the Tigers 94 points, as Blackwell lead the team with 25 points, while Frank contributed 22 points and shot 9-for-12 from the field. Veteran seniors Jordan Roundtree (St. Louis, Mo.) and Amber Smith (Shreveport, La.) tacked on 11 and 13 points, respectively.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou took control of the game early, as the Tigers 16-0 run to open the first quarter. The scoring run resulted in an 18-6 lead after the opening period. Blackwell pushed the pace in her first appearance as a Tiger, scoring 25 points. The Tigers 25-0 run in the second quarter solidified the victory.
Top TIGERS
- Blackwell exploded in her debut as a Tiger, scoring a team-high 25 points, while dishing out two assists and grabbing four rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Blackwell shot 10-for-16 from the field and 3-for-4 from three in the game.
- Frank scored 22 points while pulling in six rebounds and shooting 9-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from three.
- Redshirt freshman forward Brittany Garner (Philadelphia, Pa.) pulled in a team-high eight rebounds and scored seven points in 15 minutes of action.
- While shooting 50 percent from the field, Roundtree tallied 11 points, recorded three assists and five rebounds.
- Junior guard Elle Brown (Columbia, Mo.) dished out eight assists and had three steals in the game, both team-highs.
NOTES
- A pair of freshman, Blackwell and Frank, made their debuts in Black and Gold, combining for 47 points. Blackwell scored 25 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the field. Frank contributed 22 and went 9-for-12 from the field.
- Mizzou scored 94 points in their first of two exhibition games. This is the most in an exhibition since they scored 97 points against Quincy during the 2015-2016 season.

Mizzou will continue with one more exhibition game Tuesday before they begin the regular season, as the Tigers face on Fontbonne at Mizzou Arena. Tipoff is slated to begin at 7 p.m. CT.
