Mizzou Soccer Falls to Alabama at Home

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer opened the penultimate week of the regular season with a loss to Alabama, 2-1 Thursday night at Audrey Walton Stadium. Sophomore Julissa Cisneros' (Moreno Valley, Calif.) goal of a penalty kick was not enough for Mizzou (7-8-1) to top the Crimson Tide. (9-4-3) after both teams scored in the first 10 minutes of action.
TURNING POINT
Tied at 1-1 midway through the second half, Tigers redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Gillian Schulte (Columbia, Mo.) made an aggressive charge at the ball in the box. A foul was issued on the play and Alabama converted the penalty kick opportunity for the eventual game winner in the 64' minute.
QUOTABLE
- "I'll give credit to Alabama first to come on the road find a way to win," said head coach Bryan Blitz. "To give up an early goal like that and respond the way we did, especially the first 15 minutes of the second half, and I thought we were in it to win. I thought we changed the momentum a little bit."
NOTES
- The Tigers are 4-3 all-time against Alabama.
- Corner kicks continue to be a deciding factor for Mizzou, as the Tigers were outdone in the category by Alabama, 9-5. Mizzou is 1-7 this season when they have fewer corner kicks than their opponents.
- Seven of Mizzou's eight losses this season have been decided by one goal.
- In order to qualify for the SEC Tournament, Mizzou will need to win their final two games against Texas A&M and Mississippi State, while receiving losses from at least two of the following opponents: Tennessee, Mississippi State, Auburn, Ole Miss and Kentucky.

- Cisneros converted her third penalty kick of the season for a goal in the 7' minute.
- The forward has netted a team-high eight goals this season. She finished the night with six shots, landing five on goal.
- Cisneros' penalty kick attempt was set up after Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.) drew a foul in the box.
