Tigers Shoot Season-Best Team 285 in Opening Round
The Mizzou Women's Golf Team opened play Sunday at the 2019 Jim West Challenge, held at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, and the Tigers stand in 15th place overall after two rounds of play, with a team score of 584. Mizzou shot a season-best team round of 285 in the morning tour of the par-72, 6,033-yard course, in a round that featured an impressive 15 birdies and one eagle in all, with no worse than a bogey by any of the five Tiger competitors. Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer's squad followed with a team score of 299 in the afternoon round.
"I was pleased to see how we played in the morning," said Priesmeyer. "Today was a shoot out, the course was set up to go low in the morning, and the weather cooperated. Noelle (Beijer) had a great first 18 and had some fantastic shots and took advantage early on. Sophia (Yoemans) and Bri (Bolden) were right there too, and had a lot of birdie chances that they capitalized on. In the afternoon, the winds picked up and made it more difficult and we just didn't strike the ball as well overall. This was the first time we've played 36 holes in a day this season, and I think we did get a little fatigued down the stretch in the afternoon and that led to missing some shots that we normally are solid with," she said.
