
Mizzou Football Falls to Vanderbilt in Nashville, 21-14

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Football snapped a five-game winning streak with a 21-14 defeat to Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn. Mizzou pulled even with the Commodores, 14-14, late in the third quarter, but was unable to grab the lead in the game's final quarter.
With the loss, Mizzou drops to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the SEC, while Vanderbilt improves to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the SEC. Mizzou will next play Kentucky on Oct. 26 in its second of three consecutive road games. Kickoff from Lexington is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
Top Performers
- Senior QB Kelly Bryant went 13-26 for 140 yards and one TD while rushing for 72 yards on 16 carries.
- Junior RB Larry Rountree III had a rushing TD, his eighth of the season.
- Sophomore WR Kam Scott had two receptions and a team-high 69 receiving yards
- Sophomore LB Nick Bolton made a career-high 15 tackles and matched a career high with three tackles for loss. He now leads the SEC in tackles per game (8.7) and solo tackles per game (6.0) and is second on the team with 6.0 tackles for loss this season as he is putting together a breakout sophomore season.
- Junior S Joshuah Bledsoe tallied a career-high 10 tackles in the loss.
- MLB Cameron Wilkins tallied a career-high eight tackles whith his first career INT, returned 42 yards to set up Rountree's score, while adding a sack.
- Junior DT Jordan Elliott posted a career-high five tackles as well.
- Junior TE Albert Okwuegbunam tallied his 23rd career receiving TD as he is now alone in second place on Mizzou's all-time career receiving TD list.
A Quick Recap
After a scoreless opening quarter, Mizzou got on the scoreboard in the second quarter, as senior QB Kelly Bryant found RS junior TE Albert Okwuegbunam for a four yard TD pass to make the score 7-7 with 9:03 left in the half. The touchdown was set up by a 55 yard catch and run from sophomore WR Kam Scott, who recorded his seventh career reception of 30+ yards on the drive. Vanderbilt would score later in the quarter to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, sophomore LB Cameron Wilkins picked an opportune time to make his first career interception, as his crucial pick in the third quarter set up a Mizzou touchdown. Wilkins picked off Vanderbilt QB Riley Neal and returned the ball 42 yards to the Mizzou six yard line. On the next play, junior RB Larry Rountree III ran into the end zone to knot the score at 14-14 with 1:37 remaining in the third period.
Vanderbilt took the lead once again in the fourth quarter on a 21 yard pass from Neal Riley to Cam Johnson, and Mizzou was unable to respond.

- Mizzou still leads the all-time series with Vanderbilt, 7-4-1.
Offensive Notes
- RS junior TE Albert Okwuegbunam hauled in his 23rd career TD reception, moving him into sole possession of second place on the Mizzou career TD receptions list.
- With nine receiving yards, senior WR Johnathon Johnson moved into sixth place all-time on Mizzou's career receiving yards list with 2,180 yards, passing Martin Rucker (2004-07 – 2,171 yards).
- With a first half reception of 55 yards, sophomore WR Kam Scott made his seventh career reception on 30 or more yards. He has just 20 career total receptions.
Defensive Notes
- Mizzou's defense forced Vanderbilt to a three-and-out on its first drive of the game, marking the sixth time in seven games the defense has forced a three-and-out on its first drive.
- Sophomore LB Cameron Wilkins recorded his first career interception with a third quarter pick. Wilkins also made a career high seven tackles in the game.
- Mizzou has now forced a turnover in six straight games, dating back to the West Virginia game (Sept. 7). Mizzou has forced 12 turnovers in that six-game span.
- Sophomore LB Nick Bolton set a new career high with 15 tackles and matched a career high with 3.0 tackles for loss in the game. Over the last two games, Bolton now has 25 tackles.
- RS junior DT Jordan Elliott matched a new career high with five tackles.
- Junior S Joshuah Bledsoe recorded a career high eight tackles.
