@MIZ_TrackField’s Santos Sets Triple Jump School Record at Tyson Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field wrapped up competition at the Tyson Invitational and Iowa State Classic on Saturday, as the Tigers recorded one school record and three overall top-10 all-time marks. Making her Mizzou debut, freshman Mirieli Santos (Mato Grosso, Brazil) set the triple jump school record, while freshman Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) and redshirt sophomore Sophia Rivera (Brentwood, Mo.) each climbed up the top-10 list with personal record marks in the triple jump and shot put, respectively.

Making her Mizzou debut, freshman Mirieli Santos (Mato Grosso, Brazil) set the triple jump school record, while freshman Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) and redshirt sophomore Sophia Rivera (Brentwood, Mo.) each climbed up the top-10 list with personal record marks in the triple jump and shot put, respectively.

NOTABLE FINISHES

Competing in an invitational heat, Santos placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.00m (42-8). The Tiger freshman surpassed teammate freshman Arianna Fisher's (San Jose, Calif.) previous school record mark of 12.68m (41-7.25), which she set earlier this season at the Missouri Holiday Opener (Dec. 8). Fisher's mark currently ranks 15th nationally this season.

For the men, Nachev posted a personal best with a jump of 15.42m (50-7.25), which ranks eighth all-time at Mizzou. Nachev placed third in the event.

In the shot put, Rivera earned a fourth-place finish with a mark of 15.86m (52-0.5) as she moved up one spot to No. 7 all-time on Mizzou's top-10 list. Rivera moved into a tie with redshirt senior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.), who finished fifth at 15.64m (51-3.75).

UP NEXT

Mizzou returns home for its next meet, as the Tigers host the Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 16. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. CT at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.
