Shorthanded @MizzouSoccer falls to Vanderbilt, 2-1

‘Dores beat Tigers in Columbia for the first time ever

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Soccer (4-5-2, 1-1-1) fellt to Vanderbilt (10-1, 3-0) in its third SEC game of the season Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium. The Tigers surrendered two second half goals to Vanderbilt, one off of a PK given due to an intentional hand-ball from redshirt junior forward Bethany Coons (Union, Mo.) and one on an own goal. The Tigers had their chances, even with ten players on the field, but just couldn't find the equalizer late.

Mizzou's offense was buzzing in the first half, and they headed into the locker room with a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes. In the 21st minute, Mizzou broke through on a series of three shot attempts that included a spectacular bicycle kick attempt by Julissa Cisneros (Moreno Valley, Calif), and a header into the back of the net by Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.). This is the first time all season the Black & Gold lost after owning a halftime lead.

TURNING POINT

Mizzou and Vanderbilt were knotted at one goal apiece, and even with ten players on the field, the Tigers were hanging tough. In the 83rd minute, Vanderbilt's attack finally forced a mistake from Mizzou, and that mistake came in the form of an own goal.

Vanderbilt would go ahead on the play, 2-1, and wouldn't look back.
