ATHENS, Ga. — Mizzou Soccer (4-4-2) drew with Georgia (4-3-3), 0-0, in what turned into another defensive battle for the Black & Gold. The Tigers had several chances to score in both halves, but for the sixth time this season, the Tigers failed to find the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.), sophomore midfielder Cassidy Nurnberger (New Haven, Mo.) and junior defender Peyton Joseph (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) all went the distance for head coach Bryan Blitz. The Tigers have now played in five overtime games this season. Their record in such games now moves to 1-2-2.
TURNING POINT
The Tigers appeared to be gassed in the second overtime period. Their relentless style of pressing soccer nearly yielded a positive result in regulation, but the team found itself running low on energy as the game was drawing to a close.
Georgia nearly capitalized on this fatigue, but Dossey was there to save the day for the Tigers, making what was perhaps her best save of the season in the 106th minute. A Georgia attacker hit a ball perfectly, and it looked to be destined for the bottom corner. Dossey somehow got to it and pushed it away to keep her clean sheet intact. It was Dossey's third shutout in four games.
TOP TIGERS
- In 86 minutes played, junior forward Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo.) nearly broke through several times for the Tigers. She had six shots, and four of them were on target.
- Nurnberger had two shots, one of which fell on frame. She played all 110 minutes in the contest.
- Dossey registered four saves on her way to her third clean sheet of the season.
QUOTEABLES
"I am very proud of my team tonight," Blitz said. "They stuck together out there. They got a point on the road against a Georgia team that beat Arkansas 3-1 last week. We will take it, and we are already looking ahead to our matchup against a good Vanderbilt team.
UP NEXT
