SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - Mizzou Men's Golf is set to compete in the 2018 Northern Intercollegiate hosted by Northern Illinois in Sugar Grove, Ill., this weekend (Sept. 15 – Sept. 16). The tournament will be played at Rich Harvest Farms (7,281 yards, par-72) and will feature 14 teams including Augusta, Aurora, Coastal Carolina, Grand Canyon, Marquette, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Toledo, UMKC, Wisconsin, and NIU. UCLA will have individuals compete, but will not be in the team standings.
The Tigers are coming off their seventh consecutive Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate title, where they shot 16-under par (848: 278-282-288) as a team, giving head coach Mark Leroux his 48th career tournament win.
Leading Mizzou is sophomore Jamie Stewart (Renfrewshire, Scotland), who is coming off an impressive performance at the Turning Stone and will look to build off that success this weekend. Stewart matched his career-best finish, and placed second overall individually at 8-under-par for the tournament.
That performance gives Stewart three top-10 finishes in his career heading into the Northern Intercollegiate. He is seeking Top-10 finishes in back-to-back tournaments for this first time in his career.
In the second slot for the Northern Intercollegiate, senior Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) is also coming off a strong outing. He shot 5-under-par which was good enough to tie for third in the tournament.
Juniors Ricky Sanders and Rory Franssen and senior captain Luigi Botta round the Tigers' lineup at the Northern Intercollegiate. Sanders tied for eighth at his first tournament as a Tiger two weeks ago. Franssen also placed in the Top 10, which gave the Tigers four Top 10 finishers.
Live results throughout the Northern Intercollegiate will be available on GolfStat.com during the event.
