The Tigers begin play in Verona, N.Y., on Sept. 2
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Men's Golf launches its 2018-2019 season this weekend (Sunday Sept. 2 – Monday Sept. 3) as the Tigers host the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate at Turning Stone Resort's Kaluhyat Course (6,882 yards, par-72). This year's field features 18 teams, including North Dakota St., Wright St., Ottawa, Niagara, Bethune-Cookman, Sacred Heart, Stetson, Mount St. Mary's, Northern Kentucky, Cleveland State, Delaware, Villanova, Binghamton, Youngstown State, Valparaiso, Detroit Mercy, and Boston College.
Last year, the Tigers claimed their sixth consecutive Turning Stone title, shooting 20-under-par, and will aim for their seventh straight tournament win in Verona this week. Mizzou's 50-stroke final margin over tournament runner-up UNCW (+30) in 2017 marked Mizzou's largest win in the history of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate. Mizzou's entire five-man lineup finished in the top five individually.
Mizzou looks to continue its momentum in Verona this weekend as sophomores Jamie Stewart (Renfrewshire, Scotland) and Jack Parker (Columbia, Mo.) headline the lineup. Last year, Turning Stone marked their debut event as Tigers, where they both finished even-par to tie for fifth.
Following the sophomores in the third slot is newcomer Ricky Sanders (The Hague, Netherlands), who started his collegiate career at Indian Hills Community College. The junior led Indian Hills to a NJCAA National Championship last season, finishing second nationally individually and looks to bolster the Tigers' lineup as the 2018-19 campaign gets underway.
In the fourth slot of Mizzou's starting lineup is redshirt senior Luigi Botta (Cuneo, Italy). This year will mark Botta's second visit to Turning Stone Resort as a Tiger. Last time out, he finished tied for fourth at 1-over-par.
Junior Rory Franssen (Inverness, Scotland) holds the fifth and final spot in the lineup. Franssen finished one-stroke back of Mizzou alum Hayden Buckley at the 2017 Turning Stone Intercollegiate, placing second overall. Last year, the junior matched his career-best 18-hole score at the Turning Stone Intercollegiate, shooting 4-under-par 68 in the second round.
Senior Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) will be compete as an unattached individual this week.
Live results will be available on BirdieFire throughout the tournament.
