The duo rounds out Mizzou’s coaching staff for 2018-19 season
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball rounded out its 2018-19 coaching staff Thursday, as head coach Robin Pingeton announced the addition of graduate student managers Katie Frerking and Devin Perez. Prior to joining the Mizzou coaching staff, Freking played collegiately for Auburn (2013-17) and professionally overseas in Sweden (2017-18), while Perez played collegiately for Ottawa (Kan.) University (2015-17).
Frerking played professionally for Lulea Basket in Sweden during the 2017-18 season, where she averaged 11.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the three-point line in 10 games. She finished up a highly successful collegiate career at Auburn during the 2016-17 season, where she led the team in scoring (15.7 ppg), rebounding (6.3 rpg), assists (3.0 apg) and steals (2.6 apg) while earning All-SEC Second Team honors. Frerking closed her collegiate career as one of two players in Auburn history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 200 steals. Her career numbers of 1,271 points, 235 steals and 146 three-point field goals rank 20th, sixth and eighth, respectively in Auburn history. Frerking enjoyed great success in the classroom as well at Auburn, as she made the honor roll all four seasons (2014-17), was named 2017 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and made the CoSIDA Academic All-District team twice (2016-17).
"I am so thankful and excited for the opportunity to join the Mizzou family and work with the women's basketball program," Frerking said. "I developed so much respect for Coach Pingeton and her staff during my four years of competing against them, and I am very honored to be joining them as a Graduate Assistant. I'm looking forward to getting started and helping contribute to a successful season."
Perez appeared in 80 games over three seasons at Ottawa University, where he averaged 5.1 points per game while shooting 90.1 percent from the free throw line. Perez brings a wealth of basketball experience with him to Mizzou, as he helped coach a middle school team for MoKan Basketball Club (2017-18), worked camps at Kentucky (2018) and Breakthrough Basketball (2017-18) and founded his own program, Next Up Basketball, in his hometown of Tulsa, Okla. Prior to Ottawa, Perez played baseball for two seasons at Clarendon College.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to be working in the women's basketball program at Mizzou," Perez said. "I look forward to building relationships and assisting in helping this program build on its recent success. I appreciate Coach Pingeton for the opportunity, and I look forward to being in Columbia."
