Mizzou opens final homestand with Missouri Valley's Sycamores
- Mizzou Baseball enters the final week of the regular season and will face Indiana State of the Missouri Valley Conference in its final midweek game of 2018 Tuesday. SEC Network will air Tuesday's contest at 6 p.m. with Mark Neely and Mike Rooney on the call. The game will also air on the radio waves via KTGR in the Mid-Missouri area.
- Mizzou is looking to bolster an already stellar nonconference performance with Tuesday's game vs. Indiana State. Mizzou is 21-3 in nonconference games this season, including a perfect 10-0 in midweek contests. Those midweek wins include three over ranked teams (at No. 24 Miami, No. 20 Wichita State and at No. 19 Missouri State) and what was an RPI top-50 win at the time on the road over Iowa. Should Mizzou win Tuesday, it would move to 11-0 in midweek contests, which would be Mizzou's best mark since the turn of the century. Mizzou's went 11-1 in midweek games in 2001 and was 11-0 before dropping its final midweek contest of the year on May 8 to Missouri State, 5-3.
- Since head coach Steve Bieser took over Mizzou Baseball, the Tigers have been incredible at Taylor Stadium against nonconference opponents. Mizzou is 28-2 at home against non-conference teams under Bieser. Against nonconference competition, Mizzou is a perfect 14-0 at home this season and has won its last 16 home nonconference games. The last home nonconference loss for Mizzou came on April 18, 2017, when it dropped a 5-3 decision to Missouri State.
- Mizzou is coming off of another tough weekend, letting an SEC series just slip away after it dropped the rubber game of a three-game series at now nationally-ranked South Carolina, 1-0, Sunday afternoon. Junior lefty Tyler LaPlante tossed 8.0 shutout innings, allowing just four hits and a walk with a career-high eight strikeouts before surrendering a walk-off homer on the first pitch of the ninth inning. Mizzou won the Friday game 5-3 and lost Saturday, 6-3, before the heart-breaker Sunday.
- Mizzou will send junior RHP Brian Sharp to the mound Tuesday vs. Indiana State. Sharp is a perfect 4-0 in nine appearances, including three starts, all in midweek games. He has a 3.54 ERA in 28.0 innings and has struck out 28. This will be his fourth start of the season. His first was Feb. 21 when Mizzou downed then No. 24-ranked Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. Sharp was sensational in that game, allowing just four hits and zero walks over 5.0 shutout innings while striking out a career-high eight. He earned the win over Chicago State on April 17, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing just two run on five hits. He then defeated Missouri State on April 24, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
- Indiana State has not announced a starter for Tuesday and likely will not until Tuesday morning.
- Mizzou leads the all-time series with Indiana State, 12-6. The last meeting between the two teams came in 2012 with the Sycamores claiming a decisive 15-1 win over Mizzou at Taylor Stadium. That snapped a seven-game winning streak for Mizzou in the series. Below is the all-time series info:
