Buckley cards a 65 in Round One
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Men's Golf seized a lead at the Tiger Invitational after inclement weather pushed tee times back to 11 a.m. CT. The Tigers sit in first through Round One. The event is unofficially halfway through Round Two and the scores provided on GolfStat are not verified scores. Round Two is set to finish up tomorrow and will be immediately followed by a final 18 holes to cap off the 54-hole tournament.
Senior Hayden Buckley (Belden, Miss.) came out full force today and shot under-70 for the 13th time this year with a tournament-leading 65. Buckley also topped off the round with a perfect, 85-yard approach shot to eagle the 18th hole. The Mississippi native sits 7-under and in first through the first 18.
Following Buckley at T-5th for his first round is freshman Jack Parker (Columbia, Mo.) recording the third, under-70 score of his career. Parker tallied eight birdies in just his first round to bring in a solid 3-under (69). He is currently leading the tournament in birdies.
Fellow freshman Jamie Stewart (Renfrewshire, Scotland) is also sitting in the Top-10 after a stellar round of 2-under (70), marking the third time he has fired a 70 in a round as a Tiger. Stewart was able to make up for a couple bogeys by tacking on five birdies for the round.
Closely following Stewart on the leaderboard, senior Trevor Ullestad (Jewell, Iowa) shot under-par for the ninth time this year after a solid performance recording one-under (71) for his first round. Ullestad had a strong back nine, recording seven pars and two birdies.
Further down the leaderboard, senior Luigi Botta (Cuneo, Italy) struggled with his first nine but made a big comeback on the back. The Italy native had a back nine of 1-over to end the 18 holes with a total of 7-over (79).
As individuals, junior Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) and sophomore Rory Franssen (Iverness, Scotland) both finished even (72) for the first round. The duo sits T-20th after Round One.
Round Two will resume tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. CT to finish out the second 18. Round Three will follow as scheduled.
