Mizzou posts five top-five finishes, three in field events
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mizzou Track & Field opened competition at the John McDonnell Invitational Friday, as redshirt junior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) recorded an event win in the women's discus. The opening day of the meet was highly productive for the field competitors for Mizzou, as all three Tigers recorded top-three finishes in their respective events.
NOTABLE TIGERS
In the women's discus, Jacobs recorded her third discus event win in four meets this season, as she recorded a season-best throw of 55.42m (181-10). Jacobs, the school record holder in the event, produced the throw in her sixth and final throw of the event. The Tiger junior, who entered the meet with the 20th-best discus throw (52.57m/172-6) in the west region, will likely move into the top-15 with her Friday performance.
In the men's discus, redshirt junior Will Fife (Jefferson City, Mo.) finished second with a personal-best mark of 52.14m (171-1), while junior Landon Cuskelly (El Dorado, Kan.) finished third in the high jump with a season-best mark of 2.11m (6-11). Cuskelly's mark matches the 12th-best mark in the NCAA West region entering the weekend.
On the track, Mizzou posted two top-five finishes as senior Mark Sheridan (Ballwin, Mo.) finished fourth in the 800m run at 2:00.81, while sophomore Faramola Shonekan (Columbia, Mo.) finished in the women's 800m run at 2:20.45.
