Storylines
- Mizzou faces Morehead State for just the second time in program history with the only other meeting coming on Dec. 3, 1984, when the Tigers prevailed 75-60.
- Mizzou is looking to finish an undefeated month of December for the first time since 2011-12, the third time this century and for just the eighth time since 1930.
- A win on Saturday would give Mizzou six consecutive victories, which would be the longest win streak of the Cuonzo Martin era and the longest since 2013-14, when the Tigers started that campaign 10-0. Mizzou is already riding its third win streak of at least five games during the Martin era.
- Mizzou is on fire of late, downing four consecutive opponents by 15+ points for the first time since Dec. 1-Dec. 17 of 2012. A fifth such win would be the first time since Nov. 17-Dec. 2, 2011.
- Mizzou has held opponents to 69 or fewer points 29 times in the Martin era, which amounts to 65.9 percent of the games with him at the helm. When the Tigers have done so this season, they are 8-0.
- Mizzou is attacking the glass this season. It has outrebounded its opponent nine times in 11 games to begin the season. The Tigers have done that 31 times in 44 games during the Martin era. Mizzou is limiting opponents to 31.7 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the SEC.
- Mizzou leads the SEC in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 39.8 from beyond the arc. From 2012-17, Mizzou shot 32.4 percent from 3-point range. In the Martin era, Mizzou is shooting 38.6 percent from deep. Mizzou has made 72 triples over the last six games, shooting 44.6 percent from beyond the arc in that span. Sophomore Mark Smith is the top three-point shooter in the SEC (46.4).
- The Tigers are one of three power 5 teams in the top 35 in the nation in both 3-point field goal percentage (22nd - 39.8 percent) and scoring defense (33rd - 63.4 percent).
- When Mizzou has committed fewer turnovers than its opponent this season, it is 7-0.
SEC Player of the Week
- Sophomore standout forward Jeremiah Tilmon was named SEC Player of the Week on Dec. 24, his first career conference award and Mizzou's first since Kassius Robertson on Feb. 12.
- Tilmon averaged 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in two wins over Xavier and Illinois, recording back-to-back doubles. He notched a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds vs. Xavier and added 16 points and 12 rebounds vs. Illinois.
- He has scored in double figures 20 times in his career. Mizzou is 18-2 in those games, including 7-1 this season. Tilmon scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive game vs. Illinois, his longest career streak.
- Tilmon shot 65.4 percent from the field last week and is shooting a team-high 56.7 percent this season. He's made 24 of his last 36 field goal attempts.
- Tilmon has been dominant at home this season, reaching double figures in all six games thus far. In those six contests, he's averaging 14.2 points per game and shooting 60.0 percent from the floor.
- Tilmon's field goal percentage of 56.7 percent ranks second in the SEC.
- Tilmon has four double-doubles in his last six games. He is one of five players in the SEC with at least four double-doubles this season.
Geisty
- Senior guard Jordan Geist, who had surpassed 20 points in a game just once in his career (28 vs. Green Bay on Dec. 9, 2017) prior to this year, reached the 20-point threshold for the third time this season with 20 points, a season-high seven assists and six rebounds vs. Illinois.
- In those three 20+-point outings, Geist committed just six total turnovers in 98 total minutes.
- Geist came up clutch vs. UCF, making a career-high five triples, including a buzzer-beating trey to send the game to OT.
- Geist has reached double figures in seven of the last eight games. He has done so in 63.6 percent of games this season after doing so in 30.3 percent of games last season.
- Geist has improved his scoring average from 7.3 PPG to 13.4 PPG in one season.
- Geist is averaging 14.4 points per game during the Tigers' current five-game win streak and 16.0 PPG since Nov. 18.
Puryear Reaches Century Mark
- Senior Kevin Puryear has appeared in 32 more career games than anyone else on Mizzou's roster, earning 100 career starts.
- Puryear became the first Tiger to reach the century mark in starts since Kim English in 2012. He is the 15th Tiger to do so in program history and the second active player in the SEC with 100 starts.
- Puryear is now the seventh Tiger in program history with at least 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds & 100 career starts, joining Kelly Thames, Steve Stipanovich, Arthur Johnson, Derrick Chievous, Doug Smith & Jevon Crudup.
- Puryear ranks 33rd on Mizzou's all-time scoring list with 1,113 career points and counting. He recently surpassed legend Norm Stewart with eight points vs. Illinois. He's just 160 points shy of the Top 25 on Mizzou's all-time scoring list with at least 20 guaranteed games left on the schedule.
