BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mizzou Soccer redshirt senior Lauren Gaston (Los Angeles, Calif.) and former Mizzou Baseball third baseman Alex Samples (Bridgeport, Texas) will represent the Tigers at this year's Southeastern Conference Career Tour, announced Wednesday by the league office.
28 current and former SEC student-athletes will participate in this year's edition of the SEC Career Tour held in Atlanta from Nov. 27-29. This marks the third consecutive year that the SEC has invited student-athletes from each of its institutions to participate in the career tour leading up to the SEC Football Championship Game.
Gaston, a midfielder for the Tiger Soccer program, was a consistent contributor for head coach Bryan Blitz over her five-year career in Mid-Missouri. She appeared in 51 total games with three starts, adding key depth to the Tiger roster. Gaston also excelled in the classroom, earning back to back SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition in 2015 and 2016.
Samples, an infielder for head coach Steve Bieser and Tiger Baseball the past two seasons, served as the everyday third baseman. He made the trek to Columbia in 2017 following a successful two-year stint with Navarro College from 2015-16. Samples enjoyed a productive 2018 senior campaign, posting a career-best 11 multi-hit games.
The goal of the SEC Career Tour is to provide exposure for SEC student-athletes who are seeking career opportunities in various fields. The group will meet with executives at several corporations in the Atlanta area including UPS, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, The Home Depot and the Atlanta Hawks NBA organization.
Also included in the late November event will be dinner with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and multiple presentations by former SEC student-athletes who will speak on the impact of past SEC Career Tours.
