Tigers’ eight-match winning streak comes to a close
COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 20 Mizzou Volleyball's (20-5, 10-3 SEC) eight-match winning streak came to a close Friday evening after a thrilling five-set (25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 20-25, 13-15) match at South Carolina. The Tigers held a strong 12-8 lead late in the final set, but the Gamecocks reeled off a 7-1 run to close out an impressive comeback.

"We simply didn't play well enough to win tonight. I thought our preparation was subpar and it caught up to us tonight. It's a good lesson for a young team to learn. You have to bring your best every day and every match at this level. If you don't then things like this will happen. It doesn't get any easier for us coming up and we'll have to be much better this week in practice."

- Hollingsworth was fantastic on the offensive side Friday, matching her career-high with 18 kills. The total matched her previous standard of 18 kills a season ago versus Sacramento State (Sept. 16, 2017).
- Fuentes toppled 50-plus assists for the second-straight match, following up her 61 assist performance last Sunday (Oct. 28) against Texas A&M.
- Deberg paced the Tigers' offense with 19 kills, marking her third match of the year with 19-plus kills (Sept. 14 vs. Ohio, Oct. 21 at Florida).
- Mizzou's offense stole the show in set one, recording 15 kills on .393 hitting. Four Tigers recorded multiple kills, led by Hollingsworth's impressive five kills on .500 hitting.
- Mizzou served tough throughout the opening set as well, as Deberg and Annika Gereau each tallied aces.
- Set two was back and forth from the get go, leading to an incredible 15 ties and eight lead changes. The highest lead by either team was two, as the Gamecocks possessed a slim 24-22 lead late. The Tigers nearly forced extra points after a Munlyn kill, but South Carolina ultimately closed it out with a kill.
- Deberg tallied two additional aces in set two, giving her four overall through two sets of play. It matched her season and career-high in the category, marking her third occurrence this season.
- Mizzou's defense stepped up in set three, limiting South Carolina to only .065 hitting and forcing eight attack errors.
- The Tigers took advantage of a big 8-1 run early in set four, building an 11-7 lead. Soon after, a 5-1 run gave Mizzou a commanding 16-9 advantage.
- South Carolina had an answer again in set four, evening the match at two apiece following an explosive 15 kills on .429 hitting.
