Women's Golf Increases Lead Tuesday, In Position to Win Fifth-Straight Johnie Imes

Emma Allen Tied for Individual Lead Heading Into Final Round Wednesday
Columbia, Mo. – The University of Missouri Women's Golf Team increased its lead after the second round of play today at the 2018 Johnie Imes Invitational (11th annual), held at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. Mizzou shot a team round of 282 Tuesday, identical to its Monday score for a two-round total of 564, and increased its lead to six shots over second-place Florida Gulf Coast (286-284 = 570), as the Tigers are looking to claim their fifth-straight Imes team title. All five Tigers in the lineup Tuesday shot par or better, including four below par outings.
Senior Emma Allen (Southampton, England) shot a one-under par 71 Tuesday and finds herself heading into Wednesday's final round tied for first individually with her 138 total (67-71), alongside Laura Edmonds of Florida Gulf Coast (70-68 = 138) and Mary Janiga of Mercer (69-69 = 138). She'll tee off Wednesday looking for her first collegiate win. Allen was even par through five holes today, but ran into trouble on the par five sixth hole, where she carded a triple-bogey eight. She recovered nicely, however, as she birdied four of the next five holes to get back to under par, and that's how she would finish, thanks to a closing birdie on the final hole.
Junior Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) also shot a one-under par 71 Tuesday, and stands solo in seventh place with her two-day 141 (70-71 = 141), just three shots off the pace. Yuen was one under on the front nine today, and played the back in even par, as she carded four birdies in all to counter three bogeys. Yuen, who has now been under par in five of seven rounds so far this fall, is also looking for her first collegiate victory individually.
Junior Cherise Otter (Bloomington, Ind.) had the round of the day for Mizzou, with a three-under par 69 that puts her in a tie for eighth place at 142 overall (73-69 = 142). Otter opened her second round with 11-consecutive pars, before she got hot and birdied holes 12, 15 and 16 on the way to playing the back in three under par 33. The 69 ties Otter's career best at Mizzou, achieved twice previously, both at the Johnie Imes in 2016 (1st round) and 2017 (1st round). Just four shots off the lead, Otter heads into the final round looking to improve on her career-best finish, which was a tie for eighth place in the 2017 Imes.
Senior Cayce Hendrickson (Benton, Ky.) followed her opening-round even-par 72 with a one-under par 71 on Tuesday, marking her first red number round of the fall. Hendrickson had birdies on holes four and eight to post a two-under front nine score of 34, and she finds herself in a tie for 11th place individually heading into Wednesday, just five shots off the lead with her two-day 143 total.
Senior Amanda Kim (O'Fallon, Mo.) bounced back from a tough day Monday to card an even-par 72 in Tuesday's second round. Kim had five birdies today, and played the back nine in two-under par 34, and she will tee off Wednesday in a tie for 46th place with her two-day 152 total (80-72 = 152).
Mizzou's three individuals are in position to challenge for top-25 finishes tomorrow, as freshman Keagan Dunn (Braselton, Ga.) and senior Mackenzie Perez (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) are tied for 39th at 151, while redshirt freshman Julia Bower (Columbia, Mo.) is right behind them in a tie for 46th at 152. Bower (77-75 = 152) had the best round among the three on Tuesday, shooting a three-over par 75 which included three birdies – among them a finishing birdie on the ninth, her final hole of the day.
Perez followed her 75 on Monday with a four-over 76 on Tuesday, highlighted by bookend birdies on her first and last holes of the day. Dunn, who led Mizzou's individuals Monday with a two-over 74, followed Tuesday with a five-over 77. Starting on the back nine, Dunn went out in five-over 41, but finished strong, as she was even par on the final nine holes.
Mizzou will look to defend its four straight titles beginning Wednesday at 8 a.m.
