Tigers looking to make final push up leaderboard on Wednesday outside Murfreesboro, Tennessee
COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. - Mizzou Men's Golf edged its way up the team standings on Tuesday at the College Grove Regional of the 2017 NCAA Men's Golf Tournament, with sophomore Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.) turning in the low round of the day at 2-under-par (70). The effort moved him into a tie for 34th place, individually (78, 70 -- 148).
On The Grove course outside Murfreesboro, Tennessee, head coach Mark Leroux's group improved its team positioning to ninth-place heading into the regional's final day of play on Wednesday, May 17. The Tigers will need to ascend to at least the fifth slot in the team standings in order to continue their postseason run, but Mizzou's lineup have each individually shown the ability to record solid rounds.
Mizzou's two golfers bringing up the rear of the lineup on Day One, Echelmeier and senior Linus Lilliedahl (Sandviken, Sweden), took the lesson in adversity they saw and put it to good use on the event's second day. Following Echelmeier's 70 was Lilliedahl, who recovered to post an even-at-par 72 to bring him up to tied for 41st, individually (77-72 -- 149).
Rounding out the Tigers' lineup on Day Two were freshman Rory Franssen (Inverness, Scotland) with a 2-over-par (73-74 -- 147), junior Hayden Buckley (Belden, Miss.) at 3-over-par (72-75 -- 147) and senior Euan Walker (Troon, Scotland) at 5-over-par (74-77 -- 151). Franssen and Buckley both lead the Tigers after two rounds of play, individually tied for 27th.
