COLUMBIA, Mo – Mizzou (10-12) looks to finish the 2016-17 campaign on a high note, as the Tigers travel through Alabama this weekend for the final two matches of the regular season. Mizzou will face No. 11 Auburn (20-8, 4-7 SEC) Friday at 3 p.m. and close out the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. against No. 33 Alabama (8-13, 2-8 SEC). This will be Mizzou's seventh consecutive weekend of matches against ranked opponents and fourth weekend in a row of playing at least one opponent within the top 15 teams in the country.
Santos and Ismail Ranked No. 17
- For the second straight week, Mizzou's No. 1 doubles pairing of senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio) are ranked No. 17 nationally in doubles competition, the highest ranking for a Mizzou doubles team since 2003.
- Santos and Ismail earned that ranking by posting a 11-4 record this season including their current five-match winning streak, with four of those wins coming against ranked opponents.
- This last weekend, the pairing went 1-0 with the victory coming over No. 24 Tennessee's Brittany Lindl and Eve Repic, 6-1.
- So far in this streak, Santos and Ismail have taken down four ranked opponents including a 6-2 win over the No. 4 ranked pairing out of Kentucky and a 6-3 victory over the No. 9 pairing from Florida.
- The duo will have a chance to notch two more wins against ranked opponents this weekend as both Alabama and Auburn have doubles teams ranked in the top-20.
Maintaining Momentum in Singles
- Mizzou is coming off of a strong weekend of singles play. Specifically, the play of Santos, Ismail and freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.).
- At No. 1, Santos is coming off a solid weekend, defeating No. 58 Brittany Lindl of Tennessee on Friday, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, and taking No. 28 Ellen Perez of Georgia to a third set before the match was abandoned, 4-6, 6-4, 3-1.
- The win pushes Santos' season total to an impressive 31 overall wins, with 11 of them coming in singles play.
- Schroeder played her first two matches of the season at No. 2 singles and impressed many by forcing both matches to third sets. She dropped her Friday match in the third set, but bounced back on Sunday, winning a set against No. 11 Elena Christofi before that match had to be abandoned at the beginning of the third set.
- Schroeder leads Mizzou in singles conference wins with five, while Santos is next on the team with four.
- Ismail also had a very productive weekend for Mizzou, winning her match on Friday before having her match abandoned on Sunday.
- Against Tennessee, Ismail downed her opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, for her team-leading 32nd overall victory of the season. She followed that by fighting hard against Georgia's Marta Gonzalez, before her match was abandoned in the second set with Ismail leading the set 5-3.
Scouting No. 11 Auburn
- The Auburn Tigers enter play with a 20-8 record, 4-7 in Southeastern Conference play.
- Auburn's latest match was a 4-0 win over Ole Miss on Wednesday, but the Tigers had lost seven of eight matches prior to that win.
- Auburn is led in doubles play by the No. 16 ranked pairing of freshman Taylor Russo and junior Alizee Michaud. Michaud also earned the No. 26 ranking in singles play, one of two Tigers in the rankings, as junior Andie Dikosavljevic comes in ranked No. 39 in the nation.
Scouting No. 33 Alabama
- The Crimson Tide enter play with a 8-13 record, 2-8 in SEC play. They are coming off of a weekend in which they defeated No. 11 Auburn, 4-3, snapping a three-match losing skid.
- Alabama is led by its remarkable senior Erin Routliffe. Routliffe is ranked No. 15 in singles and is a member of the No. 8 ranked doubles pairing with her partner, freshman Maddie Pothoff.
