CLEARWATER, Fla. – Mizzou Softball (17-11) concluded its high-powered weekend at the plate on Sunday, claiming a 10-1 run-rule (5 inn.) victory over Monmouth. The Tigers surpassed 10-plus runs in each of their last three games at the South Florida Tournament. Three of Mizzou's four wins this weekend were of run-rule fashion.
The Tigers' offense stole the show over this weekend's five-game stretch, tallying 52 runs and 53 hits. Mizzou's lineup hit .379 (53-for-140) collectively with 12 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 47 RBI and 12 stolen bases.
10 individual batters hit .300 or higher, seven Tigers eclipsed a .400 average and four hitters posted an incredible .500-plus average. Freshman Braxton Burnside (Paragould, Ark.), senior Kirsten Mack (Riverside, Calif.), redshirt junior Anna Reed (Lonedell, Mo.) and sophomore Kolby Romaine (Chino Hills, Calif.) led the way individually, hitting safely in over half of their at bats.
Burnside personally strung together one of the top weekends in recent Tiger memory, hitting .529 (9-for-17) with seven runs scored, one double, one triple, three home runs (including two grand slams), 17 RBI, 21 total bases and a 1.235 slugging percentage.
The everyday Tiger shortstop hit safely in all five games in Clearwater, extending her team-best hitting streak to 12 games. Burnside also added three multi-hit and four mutli-RBI efforts at the plate, giving her nine multi-hit games and a team-leading eight multi-RBI games this season, respectively.
Mack was also a force in the middle of Mizzou's lineup this weekend, as six of her eight hits went for extra bases. Five of those extra-base hits were doubles, marking a team-leading 10 total this year.
Sophomore Regan Nash (Camden Point, Mo.) served as the Tigers' table setter throughout the tournament, hitting .412 (7-for-17) with 10 runs scored and five stolen bases atop the lineup. Nash entered play this weekend with zero multi-hit games, but exploded for three consecutive two-hit efforts from Friday-Saturday.
In the circle, senior Cheyenne Baxter (Norborne, Mo.) and redshirt sophomore Madi Norman (Tipton, Mo.) earned two and one individual victories, respectively. Both Tigers surpassed their previous single-season highs in wins, as Baxter now possess a 5-2 record and Norman holds a 7-5 overall mark in the 2017 campaign.
Hear From the Tigers
Mack on her big day and weekend at the plate…
"Today was reflective of my entire weekend I felt like. I kept a simple approach at the plate and focused on driving the ball the other way. That allowed me to rack up the extra-base hits and contribute to our offense's overall success. We can build on this weekend and carry that into Texas A&M next weekend."
