Synon becomes the 26th member of Mizzou’s 100-win club with quarterfinal victory
EDINBORO, Pa. – Two Mizzou Wrestling grapplers – redshirt senior 141-pounder Zach Synon (Cary, Ill.) and redshirt junior 125-pounder Barlow McGhee (Rock Island, Ill.) – won individual titles at the Edinboro Open on Saturday. With a win in his quarterfinal bout, Synon recorded the 100th win of his career.
Synon becomes the 26th member of Mizzou's exclusive 100-win club and second to join this season after redshirt senior 149-pounder Lavion Mayes (Mascoutah, Ill.) notched his 100th victory in Mizzou's season opening dual against Old Dominion (Nov. 13). After recording decision wins in the first and second round, Synon, a two-time NCAA qualifier and 2015 MAC Champion, defeated Alex Hrispoulos (Michigan State) by way of a major decision, 8-0, in the quarterfinals to reach the 100-win plateau.
Synon would go on to record a fall over Nick Lee in the semifinals and a 6-1 decision over Ryan Pomrinca (Lehigh) to capture the title at 141 pounds.
McGhee posted decision victories over Julian Saldana (Michigan State), Ryan Hetrick (US Maps) and Nick Farro (Lehigh) to advance to the finals where he captured the title at 125 pounds after a medical forfeit.
