COLUMBIA, MO. – Mizzou Tennis (5-2) hopes to finish its 10-match road trip strong with three matches over a span of two days in Minneapolis, Minn. The Tigers will face Minnesota (3-2) on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday against Memphis (3-1) at 9 a.m. and South Dakota (0-5) at 6 p.m. This is the second road trip to Minneapolis for the Tigers this year, as they played in the ITA Central Region Championships in Minnesota in the fall.
Seniors Lead the Way Through Kansas:
- Senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) led Mizzou last weekend, posting a 5-0 overall record. Spearman and her doubles partner, senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal), won all three of their matches at No. 2 doubles, helping the Tigers clinch the doubles point in each of their three matches.
- Spearman notched her 50th career doubles win in the match against UMKC last Sunday. She and Santos took down the No. 2 doubles team from UMKC, 6-3, to give Spearman the milestone victory. Spearman now sits at 90 overall career victories.
- Spearman continues to dominate doubles play this season. She owns a team-best 5-1 record in doubles matches this spring.
Freshman Continue to Produce:
- The Mizzou Tennis freshmen class has been a bright spot all year, as the first-year Tigers have proven themselves to be a clutch, hardworking group.
- Freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) moved up to the No. 1 doubles spot to play with junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) over the weekend. Schroeder and Lashway went 1-1.
- Schroeder finished the weekend 3-2 with a 2-1 singles record at the No. 4 position. Schroeder now boasts a 5-1 singles record this spring, the best record by any Tiger in singles play.
- Freshman Mackenzy Middlebrooks (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) broke into the doubles lineup last weekend and posted an impressive 2-0 record with her partner, junior Amina Ismail (Maineville, Ohio), including a 7-6 (5) doubles point-clinching victory against Wichita State.
- Middlebrooks continued to impress in singles, adding another victory to her resume. She now stands at 3-1 this spring in singles matches and 10-4 overall this year.
- In addition, freshman Claire Sullivan (Memphis, Tenn.) earned her first career dual singles victory by defeating UMKC's Thanushree Vale 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot. She pushed her overall win total to five matches, including the fall season.
Scouting Minnesota:
- The Gophers have a 3-2 record in duals this season including wins over South Dakota State, Northern Illinois and DePaul.
- They are coming off of a 1-1 weekend last week in which they fell to Dartmouth, 4-3, despite winning the doubles point, and defeated DePaul, 5-2.
- Minnesota boasts a 3-1 record at home, with its only home loss coming to Dartmouth last week.
- Minnesota boasts a strong doubles lineup. Like Mizzou, the Gophers have only lost the doubles point once this season.
Scouting Memphis:
- Memphis holds a 3-1 record entering this weekend.
- Memphis players faced Mizzou earlier this season at the Mizzou Invite, where both teams won five of the 10 matches played between them.
- Memphis won its first three matches of the season before falling to LSU last weekend, 5-0.
Scouting South Dakota:
- South Dakota enters the weekend with a 0-5 record.
- The Coyotes fell to Kansas State and UMKC earlier this season, two teams that Mizzou has already defeated this spring.
