Senior Cassidy Spearman finished the weekend 5-0, earning 50th career doubles win, as Mizzou picked up its fifth win of the season.
KANSAS CITY – Mizzou Tennis (5-2) dismantled UMKC (1-3), 4-0, Sunday evening. Senior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) finished off a phenomenal weekend with two more victories, including her 50th career doubles win, giving her a perfect 5-0 record this weekend. Freshman Tate Schroeder (Centennial, Colo.) continued her winning ways, notching a pair of wins in Sunday night's match, pushing her singles record to 5-1.
Spearman was unstoppable all weekend, winning three doubles and two singles matches to finish the weekend a perfect 5-0. On Sunday, she and her partner senior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) improved their record as a doubles pairing to 3-0 by winning the No. 2 match, 6-3. The victory improves Spearman's team best doubles record to 5-1 this season. She went on to win her singles match by default to increase her overall record in duals this year to 7-2.
Freshman Claire Sullivan (Memphis, Tenn.) came out of the gates on fire and dominated her match from start to finish earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position. The triumph was Sullivan's first career singles win in dual play and the fifth win overall of her freshman campaign.
Schroeder won the No. 1 doubles match 6-1 with her partner junior Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.). The victory improves Schroeder's overall dual record to 8-3 this spring. In singles play, Schroeder continued her dominance, earning her team-leading fifth singles win in dual action, taking the No. 4 match 6-4, 6-1. Her victory clinched the match for Mizzou at 4-0.
Mizzou will have a few days to rest up before heading out to Minneapolis for three matches over the span of two days. The Tigers first take on Minnesota on Friday at 2 p.m. C.T.
