Former Mizzou Baseball standout and Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer has been active in efforts to help our nation respond to Hurricane Harvey. Scherzer and his wife Erica recognized the destruction in the Houston area and realized that many animals would be impacted as well.

The Scherzer's, who are avid dog-lovers themselves, decided to help the Humane Rescue Alliance, an organization in the Washington D.C. area that works with communities to ensure the safety and welfare of all animals. Because of the expected increase in the amount of abandoned dogs and other pets, the Scherzers donated enough money for all adoption fees to be waived at the shelter's locations.
Additionally, Max and Erica created a line of exclusive shirts to give back to the Humane Rescue Alliance. The clothing features a dog with two different colored eyes, similar to Scherzer's. In fact, one of the Scherzer's six dogs also sports one blue and one brown eye. A portion of the of the proceeds from every shirt sold is donated to the Alliance.
125 adoptions in 3 days!! 13 cats & 14 dogs are still left. Can we clear the shelters completely for more #Harvey animals coming next week? https://t.co/iDRJuDKEBs
